Madison

Madison, Wisconsin is the state's capital and the county of seat of Dane County. Madison is the second largest city in Wisconsin after Milwaukee and the 82nd largest city in the United States.

Madison was founded by former federal judge James Duane Doty in 1836 after Doty purchased over 1,000 acres of swamp and forest land on the isthmus between Lakes Mendota and Monona.

Madison is home to many world renowned universities, organizations, and institutions, including the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Edgewood College, Madison Area Technical College, Herzing College, Madison Media Institute, and the Madison Symphony Orchestra.

Many famous Americans call Madison home, including comedian Chris Farley, NHL player Ryan Suter, Pulitzer Prizing-wining journalist David Maraniss, Author Jacquelyn Mitchard, and actor Chris Noth.
